Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.

2/15/2015 ~ Dreams have the ability to elevate us, if we truly believe in them. – JennRene Owens, Red Sea Situations

I’m sitting at Miller’s Pub in the Chicago Midway Airport, and the entire pub is watching NBC-5 Sports. The guy in the table next to me is telling his friends, “Have you seen her? Have you seen her when they interview her? She is so down to earth, so sweet.” And then Olympic Medalist Mikaela Shiffrin wins the slalom. In the interview afterwards, she says, “I finally started to admit to myself how much I wanted to win this race, but then I was like, ‘Stop that! It’s about the process!’”

What a great reminder! We must keep our dreams before us, but stay present during the process of achieving them. Without a focus to keep us moving, atrophy sets in and depression hovers at the door. In Red Sea Situations, JennRene Owens writes, “Dreams elevate us to higher purpose and greater intention. Yet, they come with huge responsibility. If we seed our dreams with the proper attitude and co-labor with God in the process of understanding our dreams, we will have a great opportunity to help them flourish.”

At the same time, a dream worth cultivating could take awhile to blossom, and even longer to bear fruit. God could have given us just a few moments of life—the moment we were born, the moment we had a dream, and the moment we achieved the dream. Instead, God fills each of our days with 1,440 moments, each of our weeks with 10,080 moments, and each month with approximately 43,200 moments. If we can take time as a clue, then it can’t be all about the end goal. God’s doing something in us through the process.

Lord, guide me today. Sift the selfishness out of my dreams, because with selfishness comes insecurity and disappointment. Keep me open and inspired, so that while my dream is germinating and growing, I can patiently nurture it and You can nurture me. I’m growing stronger and wiser in this process. You do great stuff, Lord! I know that with You, this tree will become an orchard!
