Proverbs 4: God is not Your dad

Proverbs 4:1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding…
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips…
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

If you asked me what historical figure I’d most want to meet besides Jesus, I’d tell you King David. When I get to heaven, I’m hanging out on his front porch, where I’m sure there are some great jams going on. David was Solomon’s dad, and it seems he made some mistakes as a father. His son Absalom raised an army and tried to kill him.

Even the greatest dads make mistakes. People learn a lot through hardship, and God’s able to work things out anyway. Nevertheless, a father—absent or present—has a big impact on our love relationships, our success in the workplace and our understanding of God.

Was your dad violent, unpredictable, or absent? God is not your dad. Your dad is a person God would really like to help, but God wants to start fresh with you and show you who your heavenly Father is.

Are you a dad in need of guidance? Check out The Fatherhood Connection.

Are you a man who wants to be all you can be? I have seen men i didn’t respect turn into strong, wise, truly brave and kind men I thank God for, in this group.

Ladies, guys are people too. They shouldn’t pay for the mistakes of other men you’ve known. They are trying just like you, but they are going to handle things differently than we do. God knew there’d be differences when He designed babymaking to require both a man and a women. Pray for the father of your children, and teach them to honor him. Ephesians 6:2-3 tells us, “’Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise: 3 ‘That it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.’” Even when it’s difficult, be a part of blessing your kids.

Lord, guide us today. We want to know You for who You are, and we want to be wise and whole. Thank You for giving us all we need so that dream comes true.
