Proverbs 12: Not Robin Hood

«It is not the great temptations that ruin us; it is the little ones.» – John W. De Forest, posted by Don Charisma

Proverbs 12: 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice…17 Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit…22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight.

Prov 20:17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel.

Robin Hood was a hero, right? We were raised to think so, and from what I hear, it’s possible, but today we need to beware of our tendency to rationalize our way into wrong.

It’s 2015 in the USA and stealing is not going to turn anybody into a big-screen legendary hero. So why are we committing approximately $32 billion a year in insurance fraud? We have a culture that has been burned by the irresponsible spending of those in charge, and at the same time we have a standard of living that is nearly always at or beyond our means. Those two things are called Rationale and Pressure. The only other thing required to complete the “Fraud Triangle” is Opportunity. Let me tell you, opportunity will always come knocking if your integrity needs to be tested, and it’s surprising how it can take you off guard.

Other than in the movies, fraud isn’t usually a case of killing your mate for that million-dollar life policy. It’s more often just a few hundred extra dollars on that car repair estimate, or a visit to the lawyer even though nobody was injured in the accident. That “worker’s comp” injury that happened while moving a girlfriend costs everyone and adds up. Even if we lived in a world where our neighbors didn’t pay for our crimes with higher premiums, God isn’t blind, and He’s not going, “Weeeell, no harm no foul (high five).”

Lord, You see the weak spots in our integrity, whether we could be tempted to dishonesty in this way or another. When You allow tests, they aren’t to make us fail but to make us victorious, so strengthen us please. Increase our awareness, so that we become naturals at standing tall and being who You want us to be in every situation.

  1. AMEN! So true!!! Even if no one else ever saw or heard or found out, God always sees. He is the one we need integrity before and when we miss it and are truly sorry for it, He is the one who is always willing to forgive and to heal our hearts from our mistakes.
