Summertime, Summertime, Sum-sum-summertime!
It’s hitting the 90’s, the days are long, and we’re headed for July 4. I’m headed to Lake Tahoe! I hope you are totally enjoying snow cones, park fountains and fountain drinks this summer. There’s something about 90-plus heat that makes anything water-based sooooooo pleasurable.
While you’re enjoying that pool and pulling drinks out of the ice chest, remember that even the water we use for the car wash in the US is clean enough to drink. Why not invest the price of a 6-pack or admission to the water park to help a village get clean water? It’s so easy to make a difference with the tiniest effort. Go now (don’t wait until you forget) and donate $5, $20, $68 or more to the Water Project.
It’s 2015, not 1800—Let’s change these stats!
:0 783 million people do not have access to clean and safe water—that’s 1/9 of the world’s population.
:0 Half of the world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water-related disease.
😦 Girls under the age of 15 are twice as likely as boys to be the family member responsible for fetching water. Some of them have to walk several miles, and this makes them vulnerable to sexual assault and kidnapping.
:[ Over half of the developing world’s primary schools don’t have access to water and sanitation facilities. Without toilets, girls often drop out at puberty.
I believe in you. I believe that you and I are blessed and grateful. I’m amazed at my opportunity to go to California–something that’s been out of my reach for years. Even if you have out-of-reach dreams this year, you have what it takes to give someone a drink, and I’m grateful to you for taking the opportunity this moment offers.
Matthew 25:37-40 37“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
